The Asian Energy Institute has four main goals:
- To promote and encourage exchange of information
- To provide channels for the sharing and broadcasting of knowledge
- To support research and training in relevant fields, and
- To analyze energy developments and technologies across the globe.
Since its inception, the AEI has gathered representatives from fourteen countries throughout Asia. The decision to expand the institute was made in 1992, and since then, the network has included associate members from outside the region. The organization currently consists of twenty members as well as thirteen associate members.
